Big Day Downtown 2012

Off I went agian this year for another Big Day Downtown courtesy of Downtown Halifax. This year, in a diabolical twist, we were paired off by random draw. I was paired with the lovely Asheley Eats, but Shelagh Duffett of Alice in Paris, and Perry Paris of Paris a la Mode decided to join forces with us for double the fun.

We began at the Wooden Monkey where Shelagh wanted us to give the vegan nachos a whirl.

They were great, especially with sour cream icon smile Big Day Downtown 2012 Others enjoyed the cheese substitute. I say if you are going vegan, stop trying to eat cheese. I had a few glasses of lovely organic Italian white and we were off to our next stop.

Asheley had heard that the Bitter End had the cit’s  best Caesar and she wanted to test the claim.

She seemed to enjoy hers greatly, as did Shelagh, while Perry and I settled for martinis. We were given a boatload of extra olives, for which we were very grateful.

Finally, Perry and I decided we both love Le Coq French Bistro so much that this would be the final stop.

Many things occurred. Shelagh the vegan ate some of my steak tartare, Asheley the seafood-avoider tried one of our oysters, and Perry warmed up to some Cotes du Rhone. Me? A lot of raw food was ingested with a decent amount of wine. To quote my late grandmother, “A good time was had by all.”
